A little care goes a long way.

Just like your own premium technical gear, the Wetterson All-Weather Shell™ is an investment built to last for years—so long as you care for it properly.

Unlike standard raincoats, a 3-layer waterproof breathable shell should not be washed with regular detergent. Household detergents can leave residue that reduces breathability and performance over time.

To keep your shell working at its best, you’ll want to use two types of technical care products:

  • A technical wash (to clean without damaging the membrane)

  • A DWR re-proofing treatment (to restore water beading on the outer face fabric)

How to wash your Wetterson Shell

After wet, muddy, salty, or high-use days, a proper wash helps remove oils and debris that can cause the fabric to “wet out” and feel less breathable.

Before washing:

  • Empty pockets and remove accessories

  • Close zippers and fasten all closures

  • Loosen cinch cords

Then:

  • Machine wash warm (40°C / 110°F) using a technical cleaner made for waterproof outerwear

  • If you only have regular detergent available, run an extra rinse cycle to remove all residue

  • Tumble dry low to help rejuvenate the shell’s water repellency

Do not use fabric softener, bleach, stain removers, dry cleaning, or ironing.

When to re-proof

Your shell is treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish so rain beads and rolls off. Over time, that finish wears down.

A quick test: splash water on the shell.

  • If water beads up, you’re good.

  • If the fabric absorbs water (“wets out”), it’s time to re-proof.
